これが日本人英語なのはなぜでしょう。

日本人は「ミスる」と言う表現を日常会話で使うので、「失敗する」などと言う日本語が頭に浮かんでしまうと、ついmissという単語を使いたがってしまいます。
しかしmissには、「のがす」と言うような意味はあっても、「うまくできない」と言うようなニュアンスはありませんね。

miss the last train

miss the target

miss getting elected

miss a chance

miss lunch

などですね。

試みて、失敗する、そんな場合は
failとか、can’t make itとかのほうが自然です。
She failed to land a triple axel in the short program.
She attempted a triple axel, but couldn’t make it…
She attempted a triple axel, but failed to land it..

この様に言った方が自然ですね。
